Gaby's First Day of Kindergarten

We have survived yet another major milestone. Gaby's first day of kindergarten went without incident. She was more than ready to go. She had the honor of ringing the school bell. Tradition is that the oldest and youngest child in the school get to ring the bell and seeing as Gaby is still 4, that qualifies her. We got there just in time. We had underestimated the traffic. Good thing I was driving! We did miss the opening ceremony though. After Gaby rang the bell, we walked her to her class and got to come in for a story. It was about letting your child go and after much assurance from the teachers, I still could not hold back a few rogue tears. After the story, the teachers dismissed the parents and the children blew us kisses. No hugs or drawn out goodbyes. Gaby was all smiles and way ready to start her day. So, I left with my broken heart and waited the 5 hours till she got out of school. When I picked her up, I was greeted with the same smile that I left her with.
Her day consisted of music class, where she banged a drum in front of the whole class, and spanish class where she learned the alphabet to the letter G.
She is eager to go back. I hope the enthusiasm lasts.
Tomorrow is Gaby's birthday and she will be taking treats in to share with the class. She wants to take in donut holes. I hope that's not frowned upon. We'll see.
