Slip Sliding Away

Yesterday, the girls, Alex and I went sledding. Well, the girls and I went sledding, Alex was sleeping on a park bench. Yep, you heard me, sleeping on a park bench. He fell asleep on the way there and I put him on a park bench and he slept the whole time... poor baby.

Saying that the girls had a blast would be an understatement. I have never seen them have more fun in their lives. This beat swimming, the beach, the zoo, and even the Build-A-Bear Workshop. Others of our friends were not so fortunate. Gaby's friend Alex, who is also 4, beelined into a tree on her first run down. It was so weird. It was almost like magnetic attraction. She was halfway down the hill and just curved about 45 degrees and plowed into a tree. She has a bruised nose and we'll hope it's not broken. Having seen this, I thought for sure our sledding day was over. But the girls were unaffected by this and continued down.

I, being the nervous mother that I am, was sending them down the slope at a 45 degree angle so that they would stop upon hitting the snow bank. This quickly angered Gaby. So, I had to suck it up and send her down the big hill. I was afraid of the trees, the other kids and of the creek not too far away. Luckily Patti was down at the bottom fielding all of the kids. Another mom was halfway up helping all the kids up the slope and I was at the top helping them in and sending them off.

Afterwhile, Patti who was fielding the kids, and I traded places. Gaby and Madelyn wanted to go down together on a sled, so Patti sent them down. They must have hit a patch of ice because they too curved and were headed straight for a tree. When they curved they went about 20ft to my right. So I ran towards them and had to dive to try and reach them. No luck. I did manage to shove the sled a bit and get them off of the path of the tree. I landed face first in the snow in the middle of the hill. The force with which I dove also sent me rolling down the hill... that must have been a sight. I haven't laughed that hard in a long time! Luckily the girls were safe.

After that it was cookies and juice at Patti's and a nap on the ride home. We will definately be sledding again soon!
